Power vs. Force

I thought I would share information from my latest newsletter to clients with you all here. I hope you find the information useful! Hope it encourages personal reflection.

About 10 years ago a client, dear friend, and eventual Reiki Master gave me the gift of a book which she felt matched the concepts I was sharing with her about energy and science. She had found the book did not make sense to her, yet felt it might make sense to me. And it did! This book is called “Power vs. Force: The Hidden Determinants of Human Behaviour” by David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., and recently this was brought up in a meeting with fellow Seekers/Learners. It thrills me to be reminded that I am using that same learning in my work today.  Interesting quote from Dr. Wayne Dyer on the cover says:

“Perhaps the most important and significant book I’ve read in the past ten years.”
~Wayne Dyer

And suddenly I am realizing I just wrote “about 10 years ago” for me…interesting. Well, I believe that people come across the information they are guided to finding when the time is right.  It seems like this is the right time for me to share with you some key points from this book so this is what this month’s newsletter will focus on.  For some, reading this book may be interesting and exciting (as it was for me) and for others it may be dry and non-sensical.  I would like to point out only a few key points from this book in this post so you can reflect on the ideas to apply to your own life, if the ideas resonate with you.

One key ideas in this book is about responding rather than reacting to life experiences. He says “It isn’t life’s events, but how one reacts to them and the attitude that one has about them, that determines whether such events have a positive or negative effect on one’s life, whether they’re experienced as opportunity or as stress.”  I agree!! You may notice some long-term learning that has shaped my beliefs in my work. I’m not sure if you remember a concept called “pronoia” that I wrote about in a newsletter in November 2020? Here it is to review since most of us may not even remember what we read last week! lol! Here is a link in case you’re interested in reading that newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/49961c4c0499/how-sharp-is-your-awareness?e=[UNIQID] This is the same idea as from the book and it’s a lot of what Mindfulness can train us to do as well.

The author also discusses the idea of resistance. He says that psychological stress is the net effect of a condition that is being resisted. So a divorce may carry much resistance if it is unwanted but carry a sense of freedom if it is desired.  The same can apply to any changes in our lives of course.

Map of Consciousness

The most interesting learning from this book may be the author’s description of what he called the Map of Consciousness.  He describes joy as the unconditional kindness to all life, including one’s own, and this, he refers to as “compassion.”  He makes a very strong statement that without this compassion for oneself and others, a patient can’t truly be “cured” or fundamentally healed. Wow. Please know that this man is not saying that people do not suffer, nor is he saying that compassion is the magic bullet for cure. He does say that without this, it is less-easy (and perhaps impossible) to fully heal. Healing he relates to a place of peace and joy.  Interesting that Grief Recovery work for myself and with clients, leads me to believe the same.  This author does not push any particular healing intervention, but he certainly does encourage a mindful-awareness of the thoughts/feelings/emotions shaping our human consciousness.

Research for his findings that directed this book came from the application of kinesiology and the true scientific method. This respected doctor brought about much excitement and just as much criticism from the eyes of those looking from conditioned-medical perceptions.  I, of course love the work and the results!

Today let me just share a quick summary of the key energy levels in the Map of Consciousness from lowest to highest that are also the same as what I notice through my vibrational-energy-work and through Grief Recovery and Brain Te-Training. The numbers just relate to his numbering but I am adding them in so you can have an objective space for your awareness of the comparisons. I suspect each of us can look at this to understand where we are in a particular moment.  And any person can move to another level of consciousness with consistent, mindful-attention and training.  As you know, this is what the focus of my work is today!

20: Shame – Prolonged effect can produce neurosis. May produce false pride, anger and guilt. Personality is often shy, withdrawn and introverted; some become perfectionists, with high drive and intolerance of others. This may lead to compensating behaviours with an accusatory nature, to paranoia, psychotic behaviour and/or extremists in various groups. Freud also believed that shame produces neurosis. This is a very vulnerable level.
30: Guilt – Unconscious guilt often results in psychosomatic disease, accident-proneness and suicidal behaviours.
50: Apathy – Characterized by poverty, despair and hopelessness. Common level for homeless, the aged and the isolated.
75: Grief – Level of sadness, loss and dependency. Normal for some periods of time, but remaining at this level leads to people living in constant regret and depression.  Can be level for bereavement and also level of chronic gamblers. Notice, this is a higher energy level than apathy. So if an apathetic patient begins to cry in treatment, that is a movement forward!
100: Fear – A lot more life energy available. Many people fear enemies, disease, aging, death, rejections, etc. This is the level media and advertising target most for profit. Once fear is the focus, the endless worrisome events of the world feed it. This can become obsessive and range from jealousy to paranoia.
125: Desire – The focus of the last newsletter I sent! Here’s the link: https://mailchi.mp/9367d32d5add/desire?e=[UNIQID]
Motivates vast areas of human activity and economy. Level of addiction to money, prestige, or power as well as for sexual approval (see cosmetic industry, from makeup to surgery). Has much to do with accumulation and greed and is insatiable as satisfaction is short term only. May also be the springboard to higher levels of awareness/consciousness!
150: Anger – can lead to either constructive or destructive action. Stems from frustrated want (from desire level); yet also feeds positive action to overcome social injustice and inequality.
175: Pride – Level aspired to by many today. Yet it is defensive and vulnerable because it is dependent upon external conditions. Inflates an ego but can fall into shame easily. Often accompanied by arrogance and denial which can block growth.
200: Courage – This is where POWER FIRST APPEARS! This is the level of empowerment. Here is the level of exploration, accomplishment, and determination. At this level, life is seen as exciting, challenging and stimulating. Implies a willingness to try new things and to deal with changes and challenges of life.
250: Neutrality – Allows for flexibility and nonjudgmental realistic appraisal of problems. A place where one is relatively unattached to outcomes; not getting one’s way is no longer experienced as defeating, frightening or frustrating. Allows for a sense of well-being.
310: Willingness – very positive energy which sees work done well and rapid growth. Here people become genuinely friendly, and social and economic success seem to follow. Helpful to others and contribute to the good of society. Also willing to face own inner issues; learn from experience and tend to become self-correcting. Excellent student as willing to learn! Considerable source of power for society.
350: Acceptance – Major transformation! Understanding that one is oneself the source and creator of the experience in one’s life. There is emotional calm, and love is created from within, rather than given or taken away by another. Perception is widened as denial is transcended.
400: Reason – Knowledge and education here are sought as capital – the main tools of accomplishment. Does not in itself provide a guide to truth. Ironically this is highly effective in our technical world of methodology and logic; paradoxically this is the major block to reaching higher levels of consciousness.  Transcending this level is relatively uncommon in our society.
500: Love – Not what is depicted in mass media. That is an intense emotional condition combining physical attraction, possessiveness, control, eroticism and novelty. It’s usually fragile and fluctuating. When frustrated it can reveal an underlying anger and dependency it had masked. The 500 level of Love does not fluctuate. This level is a state of being. It’s forgiving, nurturing and supportive. It proceeds from the Heart rather than the Mind. It helps lift others due to the Purity of the motive. At this level, the ability to discern Essence becomes predominant. Often related to Intuition. This Love augments what is positive and dissolves negativity by recontextualizing it, rather than attacking it. This is what I help people do with Brain Re-Training!!
540: Joy – Arises from within each moment of existence. This is the level of Spiritually-based healing! (The Power of NOW as I have learned from, and now teach and live from too – as some of you are also doing!). The hallmark of this state is compassion. Things happen here effortlessly, by synchronicity. A Presence is felt whose power facilitates phenomena outside conventional expectations of reality, termed miraculous by the ordinary observer. This is the domain of Saints and advanced spiritual healers and students. Here it is discovered that the more one loves, the more one can love. Near Death Experiences are often the energy level between 540 and 600.
600: Peace – Experience leads to transcendence, self-realization and God-Consciousness (just terms pointing to the experience). Very rare. Distinction between subject and object disappears. Linked with some Spiritual teachers; great geniuses making major contributions to society; some remove themselves from worldly activity as the state of bliss may preclude ordinary activity. Formal religion commonly transcended to be replaced by pure spirituality from which all religion originates. Infinite silence in mind which has stopped conceptualizing and the observer dissolves into the landscape and becomes equally the observed.  Everything connected to everything else by a Presence whose power is infinite, exquisitely gentle, yet rock-solid. Great works of art, music and architecture that calibrate between 600-700 can transport us temporarily to higher levels of consciousness and are universally recognized as inspirational and timeless.
700-1000: Enlightenment – Level of powerful inspiration that influences all mankind. Identification here is of Self (Soul) uniting with Divine Consciousness. Seen in such examples as Lord Krishna, Lord Buddha, and Lord Jesus Christ.

Please know that all of us are often in states of Consciousness that includes 2-3 of these levels at once while we move along in our own personal evolution. Some move slowly, others are compelled (or guided) to flow through from an inherent drive to do so.  I am one of those people that has this drive, desire, and belief through personal experience. Take a look to see where you might be today and maybe check back weekly to see if you are transforming your experience into the higher levels. I wish this conscious adventure and experience for all. Those that this resonates with, will understand the excitement of this journey. I would not say it is easy, but I have no regrets for this direction!

If this intrigues you, do remember that my new course is open to registration throughout May called: Awakening Seers: Transcend the Mundane to Experience the Extraordinary
In May, only reading and video links will be provided to start getting students familiar with basic ideas. The actual course begins on JUNE 1st. I am sorry for many believing it’s fully starting on May 1st. I will be editing the webpage this week to make this clear from the website too.
If you are interested in taking this journey for literally “See”ing deep within yourself to connect to a Higher Power, I look forward to guiding you in this journey.  I intend to make it both insightful and fun!
