Do you know the meaning of this word? The Oxford Languages definition is this: “the intrinsic nature or indispensable quality of something, especially something abstract, that determines its character.” I chose the image for this post as it is intended for the reader to look deeper… to feel something that may arise from seeing something abstract. Often one cannot put into words such a feeling and it opens the mind to all sorts of creative thoughts that are unique to each individual. Now I am not a person particularly drawn to “abstract art” in paintings, but I am certainly drawn to this through nature. Yet each person is drawn to that which may reflect their own essence too.

I’m writing today’s post as I am writing for a magazine this year. Just a simple section about mindfulness and I love doing it. I did it for this magazine last year and now again this year and I love getting some thoughts out to the public through the articles I write. There was a change in the editor-in-chief this year and boy, am I noticing the difference in essence of both the communication and edits with the new person – and both are very polite and professional btw… but something is palpably different to my energetically-tuned senses.

I notice that the essence of my edited versions of articles are different. I have to wonder if a technical tool like “grammarly” or similar tools are being used this year. Any sincere writer knows that the essence of their writing is quite important. I feel this. I am not a perfectionist and I certainly appreciate correcting typos in any writing I do (or having the suggestion from tools or people to do so). But there is a style to my writing that I enjoy getting out to readers. A down-to-earth, sometimes playful, compassionate and a little amusing too at times. This reflects me of course. And there are definitely times when I prefer a more serious or professional tone especially if I am presenting information to an academic-focused group.

When I speak with any groups I like to present with the essence of me and of course in person, it’s hard to do anything but just that. I wanted to draw your attention today to the essence of ourselves. With the growing area of AI and other digital technology I feel that we are losing a little (or a lot?) of the essence of our interconnectedness with each other’s unique essence. And I actually love some of the new AI tools that allow people to create very “real” experiences to viewers. Yet, there seems to be a belief that such experiences are real for some and I think they draw us down the rabbit hole of illusion. Then people are more lost as some are truly (as always?) trying to differentiate between the Real and the unreal in our life experiences.

I find we have many distractions that pull us away from understanding ourselves and our true natures. Minds are constantly filled with new information, new events and new strategies for how to “live the dream.” As we fill our minds with such ideas many will get lost in such ideas that bombard our minds and our senses.

And some will truly awaken. To the beauty, the magnificence, the bliss and the joy of understanding the True Essence of the Real.

This includes real people, real relationships, authentic interactions and soul-filled reading and writing. I encourage you to look with a deep curiosity and love for the essence of people, life, and events directly surrounding you. It’s a wonderful experience to enjoy from a depth of curiosity and an intention to understand something from our own awareness. Of course, nature helps many of us remember the beauty behind the abstract. The essence of our living reality. Yet such an experience involving curiosity and understanding can happen anywhere and anytime. It does help to mindfully do so of course!

Today I’d also like to thank the original editor-in-chief that I had worked with last year. I feel she truly did understand my essence in writing and maybe even as a person. What a joy to connect with a kindred spirit! You know who you are Jen – thank-you!

Wishing you a life of authentic experiences and daily joys of awakening to the Real Essence of all that is around and within you.
